Molecular sieve, like silica gel, has microscopic pores that capture water molecules. The great advantage of molecular sieve is that according to its particle size, i.e. the size of its pores, it provides the ability to adsorb substances other than water, whether they are in the form of gas or liquid (NH3, CO2, SO2, H2S, C2H4, and many others).
Very useful for industrial use, molecular sieve is less so for home use where silica gel provides a more affordable option with greater water absorption capacity.
